OLCC U13, buoyed by 7 U11 players, beat Sanderstead by 4 wickets in a closely fought, roller coaster of a game of cricket yesterday.
Marshalled well by Luke Woollard, OLCC fielded first and were quick to grab the initiative. Decent bowling coupled with suicidal running saw the home side collapse to 22 for 5. Sanderstead rallied with Sam hitting a combative 23 before being bowled by Raff Pearce. Helped by generous chunk of extras, Sanderstead showed good character to post a competitive total of 101. Pick of the bowlers were Jos and Tom Gosling who both picked up 2 wickets.
Boosted by squash and biscuits, Sanderstead came out with all guns blazing. OLCC slumped to 3-3. Jonny Naylor launched a classic counterattack and added 34 with Matt Thomas. Matt got a decent ball that clipped the top of off and Jonny was unluckily run out by a superb direct hit from 25 yards. Ben Barney was joined by Jos Heaver still needing over 50 to win. Both batted sensibly and slowly chipped away at the target. Jos fell trying to accelerate the score. Ben was joined by Jake and together they calmly saw OLCC home with 2 balls and 4 wickets to spare. What a cracker!
