In a thrilling season opener, OLCC fell agonisingly short of victory against a strong Dulwich side. Chasing 119 OLCC lost 3 wickets in the first 4 balls before showing great spirit and recovering to need 4 off the last ball for victory. It wasn't to be but all boys emerged with great credit.
Dulwich won the toss and didn't hesitate to bat first. OLCC bowled a little short at times but always bowled straight (Ben, Olly, Jake and Brandon picked up a wicket apiece while Alfie and Tom Hopkins both took 2 wickets), fielded with enthusiasm (tom ejje spectacular direct hit to run out one of their star batsmen will linger long in the memory) and crucially took their catches (Toby's catch off a full bloodied hook was the highlight). As a result Dulwich lost wickets regularly and ended on 119.
After the rapid Shaan had ripped out the top order: Ollie Charlton, Joe Barney, Tom Hopkins (including an amazing 6 over extra cover off Shaan!) all made crucial contributions to steady the ship and set up a great finish. But it was Matt Shalless who perhaps deserves most credit; opening he survived the early onslaught and then held the batting together before falling in the final over for a hard working 23.
Special mention to the U12s max Stimson Thomas Ejje and ben cooper who all contributed fully and did themselves proud.
If we get a few more games like this we are in for a great season!
