Pitching up to play a rescheduled match at Reigate (our other game was a wash out) we realised we were a man down due to illness. We went into bat first and called around to try to gain another for our 24 over match. Will Martin who has been out all season through injury bravely went into open with Jake Curson. What an opening partnership! boundaries were struck and rapidly the score progressed, we were 49 at the end of 5 overs when Jake was unfortunately caught for 21. The next over saw two quick losses, Will went for an impressive 18. Max Ejje steadily increased the run rate with 22 and was joined by Ralph Lewis who batted controlled and sensibly to contribute a fantastic 15. Will Hudson and Jamie Hobday defended their wickets to enable the run total to creep up and Callum Murray to arrive! We wended all out for 131.
It was all to play for as Reigate came out to bat. Our first 5 overs only cost us 17. Jamie Hobday's initial overs at 2 and 4 were both maidens with the second a wonderful wicket maiden. A great catch behind by Ejje saw off their opener in Will Hudson's first over. After 9 overs Reigate were on 38 for 3. Ralph Lewis stepped up, his first ball was hit for 6, how to come back though with a clean bowl. Reigate's total crept up, one batsmen was retired and after 17 overs they were on 100. So Reigate needed 32 to win off 7 overs. Tight bowling kept us in the game and every ball was key. At the end of 23 overs Reigate were on 130, requiring 1 to win. Step up Jamie Hobday. Cool as a cucumber he ran up for his first ball, it was hit but fielded - a dot ball. Another dot ball, tight keeping and another dot ball. Fifth ball off the over and he smashed the wicket! Last ball of the game, the anticipation was electric, they needed one to win. When the ball landed in Max' glove and Jamies second wicket maiden was complete, we could all breathe again!
An amazing win, Jamie Hobday was outstanding, Will Martin batted so well and our U12's Jake Curson and Ralph Lewis were stars. Thanks to Callum and Annabel for getting him there!
Jamie Hobday 2 for 3 off 4
Eddie Hyatt 1 for 11 off 3
Jake Curson 1 for 9 off 2
Well done boys, a late night all round but so worth it, really proud of you all.
