A good win for the Os

OLCC U15’s 184-5

Steatham&Marlborough 139-6

Openers M Virley and C Mear got the innings off to a flyer. The run rate was 6+ from the second over, despite a very lively Grub St wicket, with variable bounce at the School End. Virley dug in but never stopped playing his shots, and fully deserved his 50 not out. Some beautiful shots through extra cover by M Hall were followed by my shot of the day: a lofted drive over the top of mid off by J Green. All batsmen contributed at a proper IPL pace, with the innings ending in 184/5, a very creditable 9 rpo

OLCC took the field in persistent rain, and launched into some very economical opening overs with O Hudson and H Morley keeping the Streatham batsmen on their toes. The opposition were up for the chase, giving the spinners a bit of tap, but the wickets never stopped falling - some guile from J Cox especially pleasing to watch. What really tipped it for the dominant O’s was the quality of the fielding. It was a tough ask in the wet, but the ground fielding was excellent, a fine catch by C Mear and consistent pressure by superb field placing by W de Vere Hunt put the game beyond the game Streatham side by the 16th over.
