O&L CC Mighty Fifths v Gold Leaf CC
By Simon Wardley
Captain's Match Report Sunday 19 May
Other than a watchful innings from Ian Rose and some flashing blade stuff from the opening bowlers, the Mighty Fifths didn't post anywhere near enough runs in their innings. Long outfield grass made boundaries scarce.
Bowling to only a modest total, opening Bowlers Jonty Foulds and Will Mullen had to immediately find their lines and both caused problems to the Gold Leaf batsmen from the very start, generating pace off good lengths.
Alex Shalless was outstanding in the field and, with a typically accurate spell from Toby Cutmore (who thoroughly deserved his Two wickets), Gold Leaf found scoring runs difficult.
Ben Hearn came back well after a difficult first over and began to find his best length & Ed Luck also caused problems in his spell. The next time the Umpire tells you that you should appeal more, Ed, then maybe you should listen.
Mullen and Foulds were brought back into the attack and took valuable wickets for little loss. With seven wickets down and fourteen runs still needed, the Mighty Fifths were still in the match.
However, a couple of hefty blows from the incoming Captain then sealed it for the away team, but the Gold Leaf CC team know they were in a game.
