Knee joints may be temporary… Class is permanent !

Last Sunday saw the annual match between our more senior players as “Old Oxted” narrowly defeated “Old Limpsfield” on a beautiful Sunny day at Grub Street.

Despite the unique circumstances of this Cricket season, our Alumni entertained the watching Crowds as old eyes got in once again and radars switched back on.

A full match report shall be drawn up in due course, but a mention should be made in that two of our former Wicket -keeping greats passed away this year and were remembered on Sunday by those that knew & played with them.

Colin Smith QC (Limpsfield CC 1960’s to 1995) has been described as a “truly class act” not just for his Wicket keeping and aggressive batting, but by all accounts his idea of making teas was to bring a basket from Harrods and leave it in the Legion to feed one and all.

Grant Peacock (Oxted CC 1981 to 2019) was a hugely popular Club member until his tragic and sudden death earlier this year. Those who knew Grant, this writer included, would say that not only did he have an exceptionally quick set of hands behind the stumps, but you could not wish to enjoy a pint after the match with a nicer guy.

Grant’s partner Tanya and daughter Rochelle are pictured here with the teams from last Sunday.

RIP Colin and Grant. Thanks for all that you didn’t let past you.
